Leila Arboretum’s 100 Year Anniversary
BATTLE CREEK, Michigan – Handmap Brewing is releasing a signature beer in honor of Leila Arboretum’s centennial: Leila Lemon Haze. Arboretum staff met with head brewer and owner Chris McCleary in early 2022, and after brainstorming a dozen ideas, the collaboration was fully formed.
Leila Lemon Haze is a juicy, easy drinking summertime refresher with a bright, tart lemon finish.
The Leila Lemon Haze tap release begins at 5:01 p.m. on Thursday, July 21at Handmap Brewing, 15 Carlyle Street, 1st Floor, Battle Creek, MI. The tap release will also feature live music and a food truck. The new brew will take center stage at upcoming summer music events at Leila Arboretum, beginning with Leilapalooza Music Festival, July 29 – 30 and the Believe in Battle Creek Free Concert Series, every Thursday evening in August.
Handmap Brewing celebrated its second anniversary last weekend with a big street festival, featuring food trucks and live music. Built from the ground up by Battle Creek natives Chris McCleary and Jennifer Brown, Handmap Brewing is right on the river in downtown Battle Creek in a beautifully restored historic building. Chris, a former brewer from Goose Island, is the Head Brewer and has a passion and commitment to quality. He loves to brew beers that are classic and clean and span a variety of interests.
ABOUT LEILA ARBORETUM
In 1922, when Leila Post Montgomery, widow of cereal magnate C.W. Post, donated 72 acres of land to the city of Battle Creek, she envisioned a center for culture amid the beauty of nature. One hundred years later, Leila Arboretum Society continues to uphold that vision to preserve and enhance Leila Arboretum for all to appreciate horticulture and the arts in a natural environment.
